Self development is a process, it is a constant change and will always bound to happen. Whether work, studies and even through personal life, self development is essential for one’s growth in life.
During the journey of my self development, I perceive there will be risk involved. Risk may come in various shapes and sizes, for example the pandemic COVID-19 which recently hit the entire world put my job at risk, studies and even challenged how I once lived my life. Nonetheless, I have a firm belief that every risk is set to keep one to always be on the edge and to know the boundaries, risk gives me the prudence to assess it and comes with countermeasures before it materializes into a threat that will challenge my goals and purpose in life.
In assessing risk, self development requires identifying opportunities that are around me. Being blindsided by risk can be very demoralizing, succumbing to fear and hopelessness is what deter my self development to take place. By finding opportunities that are around me, I can in hindsight look out alternative solutions and work on what may be an opportune moment to seize. Opportunities are what made my self-development a process of discovery. My life has been quite an exploration, based on my abilities, skills and talent. During my internship, I was given the opportunity to try and learn different things. Some tasks are outside what I’ve learnt at my University, some are relatively new to me but all in all, it gives me a headstart to identify what I want to pursue later on in my career.
Challenges, just like risk is needed for me to grow. Challenges are essential for my self development, it gives me the push and motivation I need to identify what skills and resources I need to obtain in order to get it through. Challenges may not be limited to work or studies, even financially or even relationships, it provides me the stimuli to have the fight or flight, to make decisions and to become a better self. In retrospect, challenges in the past are what gave me what I am today, the hardship it poses, the times when it’s hard, not giving up is what made me resilient, stronger and tougher when facing more difficult challenges ahead.
